The CPCA Board of Directors voted at its February meeting to elect Roger Lauer (Guardian Pest Management) to serve as the next President of CPCA. Kolbin Bertilson (Sprague Pest Solutions) was selected as President-elect and Phillip Stowe (Mountain Pest Control) as Secretary-Treasurer.
Attendees of the 2024 CPCA Spring Conference heard speeches from 10 candidates to fill 6 available board positions. Ryan Riley (Saela), Kolbin Bertilson, and Steve Schoen (S&S Fumigation) were reelected to 3-year terms. Richard Christner (Whitmore Pest Control), Chris Petz (Colorado Pest Management) and Chris Harvey (Mountain Pest Control) were newly elected to the board.
Spring Conference Recap
CPCA hosted nearly 200 attendees for a very successful 2024 Spring Conference on Mar. 21-22. In addition to providing attendees with courses to help earn key credits to renew their licenses, Ryan Riley provided an update on the Colorado legislative session and new board members were elected at the General Membership Meeting.
Most excitingly, CPCA launched a new local chapter of Professional Women in Pest Management to help connect more women with rewarding careers in pest control. Its first initiative will be supporting CPCA’s PestVets to help collect coats and winter gear to support homeless and vulnerable people through the winter. CPCA continues to engage with House members and their staff to oppose HB 1178, the preemption rollback bill under consideration in the Colorado State House. The bill sponsor could make a motion for HB 1178 to be read for a third, and final, time which would trigger a vote on the measure. However, even though the bill is sponsored by Democrats and Democrats control both chambers of the legislature, HB 1178 proponents do not have enough votes to pass the bill on the House floor.
Though this is encouraging, we still need your help to ensure that Democratic lawmakers do not pass the bill. Please contact NPMA public policy for a calling list of key legislators, reach out to the CPCA SPARs, or visit our action center to send a message to Colorado House members.
